Understanding your skin. 🧖🏽‍♀️

Histology of the Skin, and Skin Conditions vs Types:

You're looking at our new lineup of products from Pradiance, and you're thinking, "Wow, looks amazing. I really want to try these but don't know which products are for me!?" That's where the following information comes in. Here, we've outlined the differences between skin CONDITIONS and skin TYPES, as well as what products could suit your specific skin needs.🤓

We want you to be wearing the best skin of your life, so read on to help you understand exactly what you and your skin need!

☝🏻First things first...while it is important to understand one’s current skin condition, it's equally important to understand that one has, inherently, a skin ‘type’.

Skin Type vs Skin Condition:

One’s skin ‘type’ is what we have been born with but we need to work with what we have and make the best out of what we have. This means, one’s current skin condition can be changed. 🌹

Our skin condition can be as a result of genetics but more importantly it will be as a result of correct or incorrect skin care, medication, climate of region one lives in, water intake (insufficient water intake), stress levels, hormonal levels or changes, sport activity (chlorine from a pool) or prolonged hours in the sun as a result of lifestyle choice, career etc. Diet contributes enormously to one’s skin condition too.

Choosing good and healthy skin care products is imperative to healthy skin and will affect the healing powers of the skin. Certain ingredients like mineral oil/petroleum/paraffin will clog the pores and if one is prone to breakouts, this ingredient will be a problem.

The skin is a living organ and it responds well to healthy ingredients. Mineral oil on the other hand is a dead oil. It is a by-product of gasoline mining and serves no purpose to living, healthy skin. The skin will become lifeless over time. 😱

Skin cell cycle:

The skin cell cycle of 28 days is a normal cycle. This means that the skin cells take 28 days to fully replace themselves or reach full maturity. The skin cycle slows down to approximately 6 weeks as one matures.

The ‘Pradiance Way’ is about the connection to nature and the regenerative power it provides. Taking care of our mind, body and spirit in the healthiest way possible, will have a dramatic effect internally and externally, and result in a more radiant skin. 🌙 ✨

Skin Conditions:

Dry & Dehydrated Skin 🌵

Dry skin is a skin type, but dehydrated skin is a condition that can affect anyone, even those with oily skin. Causes can include air conditioning, insufficient water consumption, cold weather and skincare products that are too harsh and strip the skin. Cleansing should not strip the skin of its natural oils and dry your skin further. Always hydrate with Toner and Serum and then apply a deeply hydrating moisturiser to seal in the natural moisture.

Sensitive Skin 🧴

Sensitive skin may react to factors like irritating products with synthetic chemicals, mineral oils, artificial colours, as well as extreme weather and heat. Cleansing should be as gentle as possible to ensure the skin isn’t stripped. Follow with a gentle, hydrating toner and moisturisers that have been specially developed to calm and soothe your skin

Combination Skin 🌦

Combination skin is typically dehydrated in the cheek area with an oily T-panel (the forehead, nose and chin area). The correct cleansing products can help restore the balance. It’s also important to use skincare free of potentially pore- clogging mineral oil and irritating artificial colour.

Oily Skin 😅

Oily skin produces an excess of oil and, in some cases, blackheads and pimples will be present. This is why it’s important to use skincare free of potentially pore-clogging mineral oil and irritating artificial colour.

Ultra-Dry Skin 🌵☀️

Ultra-dry skin (oil dry skin) will require nourishment in the form of nourishing and protective oils and plant butters. The hydro lipid function of the skin needs a balance of nurturing oils and moisture. This skin type will benefit highly by using a milky cleanser as opposed to a face wash. The Supreme C+ Serum is a must under the day cream.
